Henro

In Japan there is a pilgrimage route around the island of Shikoku, connecting 88 temples belonging almost all to the Shingon Buddhist school. This trail is some 1130 km long, and the the pilgrims (henro) follow it clockwise around the Island.

In 2011, photographer Nora Rupp decided to walk these 1130 kilometers, photographing what she saw. The images presented in this catalogue show her adventure in a series of portraits of the pilgrims and landscapes.
